About bmic Services Involvement Collection Funders

How can I search the online collection?
You can search by composer name, instrumentation, year etc, although it is sometimes better to be more general in your search and less specific as more results will come up.
Do use the drop down menus for instrument abbreviations and to aid you in your search.
A ‘%’ mark can be used as a ‘wild card’.

Some symbols you might see include:
$ = soloist
++ = suitable for church use
+++ = suitable for liturgical use
## = suitable for children
treble clef – this represents a digitised score that you can view online
audio – this represents a clip of the piece you can hear online

What can I search?
The entire score collection is listed with over 40000 scores and recordings.

How can I look at scores?
If there's a treble clef by the individual score, you can open it up using Adobe Acrobat (may be downloaded here), if not available for viewing on the website, you can look at the score in person at bmic.

I want to order this score and there is no facility to buy it?
We can only copy certain scores in the collection. If the score has ‘Composer/bmic’; in the ‘publisher’ field, or is part of our printing and distribution schemes (eg the Voices schemes or Chamber Music 2000, Chamber Music Exchange) we can copy it here for a fee. We cannot copy published scores or scores which are available solely from the composer. We can often supply the composer's contact details for such enquiries- info@bmic.co.uk. Contact details for publishers are often on the page (click on the highlighted ‘publisher’ button for addresses)

Can I have my scores digitised?
Our digitisation programme was a time-limited project running for 2 years (2002-4) enabling a percentage of the collection to be made accessible for viewing online. It was funded by the New Opportunities Fund. We are currently looking for fresh sources of funding to make digitisation an ongoing part of bmic's programme of activity.
