about
It is autumn- it must be time for the Cutting Edge to return
and bring you the newest sounds, composers and performers
together with some of the most respected names in the contemporary
music world!
This year we have focused the series into 8 evenings, 11
events, charting the repertoire of some well-loved names and
some we hope you will discover here for the first time! We
are delighted to welcome back Plus Minus in a typically electric
performance, CoMA in what we predict to be a record third
sell out show and OKEANOS whose programme celebrates Elliott
Carter's centenary. Alongside these, we have some new
ensembles not only to the series but also London- namely the
York based Black Hair ensemble who make their London debut
with a programme comprised of specially written works for
the group; also the young ensemble Kürbis, showcasing
works by their co-founders Claudia Molitor and James Weeks
as well as the mixed-media experimental group house of bedlam
in an evening of music and words.
At the heart of this year's series are four events
forming our Electroacoustic days. World renowned oboe virtuoso
Chris Redgate and composer Paul Archbold join forces in a
programme of unmatched technical brilliance; while artist Anna Best and composer Paul Whitty present the continuation of their project Vauxhall Pleasure that examines the past and present soundscapes of Vauxhall Cross gyratory former site of the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. In Electrosound, Jo Thomas brings together
the work of sound and visual artists, showcasing some of the
newest techniques and trends in the medium.
Adding to all this, two mesmerising partnerships- Libra Duo
and a selection of the Norwegian asamisimasa ensemble- and
we have an autumn full of vibrant sonic colours!
