Virtuoso pianist and composer Jonathan Powell presents a keyboard marathon of epic dimensions, exploring rich links and contrasts between early 20th-century and contemporary British repertoire. With a little help from his friends, he performs classics by Ives, Scriabin, Busoni, Debussy and Grainger alongside new solo works, two Finnissy concertos (in Powell’s ongoing exploration of this series), three pieces by the unclassifiable John White (including a new sonata written for this evening), and revivals of two-piano pieces from Newland and Toovey.
