Cutting Edge Workshops 2004

Bmic continues to develop links with higher education establishments through the Cutting Edge Workshops. The following Cutting Edge ensembles are giving workshops for composers at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Neil Heyde & Christopher Redgate (cello, oboe & electronics)

Over two workshops, students will work with the performers, together with composers Michael Young and Paul Archbold, in developing a creative relationship between composer and performer, experimenting with extended techniques, and acquiring experience of transforming sound with live electronics.

Sarah Leonard & Stephen Gutman (voice & piano)

This workshop is aimed at teams of composers and singers and gives an opportunity for composers to gain experience of working closely and collaboratively with a particular musician, and vice versa. During the workshop, the whole collaboration process, as well as the outcoming piece, will be discussed. This workshop will be led by Sarah Leonard.

IXION

IXION will workshop pieces written for flute, clarinet, piano, violin, viola, cello and double bass. This workshop will be led by composer Andrew Toovey.

Piano Circus

Piano Circus will workshop pieces written for 6 pianos. This workshop will be led by the performers of Piano Circus.

Participating institutions: City University, Goldsmiths College, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Oxford Brookes University, The Royal Academy of Music, Southampton University, Surrey University.

Bmic would like to thank City University, Goldsmiths College, and the Royal Academy of Music for providing venues for these workshops. For further information about participating in the workshops contact Emma Welton at emma@bmic.co.uk or on 020 7928 1902.
