New Voices is a Bmic initiative to promote and distribute the work of young British composers. It exists to meet a need: for a rising generation of creators to receive support and wider recognition for the quality of their music.

Fifteen composers were part of the New Voices scheme in 1999, its inaugural year. A further ten joined in 2000, a further five in May 2001 and five more in May 2003. With the creation in 2003 of Contemporary Voices, New Voices will concentrate on promoting a smaller number of composers, with the aim of raising profile for emerging talent that is mostly finding its way without the support of commercial publishers or record companies.
