Introduction

Bmic holds a unique collection of scores, recordings and background information on music from this country. Although the collection encompasses much music from the earlier 20th century, going back to 1900, most of the material is post-1960 and contemporary.

You can use our searchable database to access the collection. Around 2,500 extracts and full scores are now available to view online, alongside nearly 1,000 selected audio samples. Many of these scores can be downloaded and you can order bound copies of over half of them. Over time we will be adding more scores and recordings, as well as background information on composers.

The database can also guide you to obtaining score materials. Where a score is published, available directly from the composer or available through Bmic, this will be indicated on the database. In case of doubt, contact Bmic for more information. Please note that Bmic cannot supply recordings, for reasons of copyright.

We welcome visitors to our premises at British Music House who wish to use the collection in person, although it is available for reference only, we do not lend. Visitors wanting to access scores composed before 1960 should make an appointment in advance of their visit. Music written post 1960 is currently stored off-site, please contact a member of Bmic staff for information on how to access these materials.
